INTERACTION
 April 2000

200x60x60 cm

Fabric, Speakers, pressure Pads Plastic Pipes, Tape Players

I wanted to create a fully interactive sculpture, that presented the ideas of my Journey piece in a fun and entertaining way, so that people would begin to realize the potential power of sound to evoke imagery.

I placed a series of pressure pads on the ground, each one producing a different sound that changed every 30 seconds. The sound was only activated when someone stepped on the pressure pad, it stopped once the pad was released. You never knew what was going to come from where as each sound was independent.

As each sound was independent you could have them all playing at the same time or one at a time. Creating a performance that was different every time, depending upon the amount of people that were interacting at the time and the sequence in which the pressure pads were activated

This piece contained all the elements that interest me, it dominates the space, it was completely interactive, it was completely unpredictable and yet it evoked so many varied images.
